Overview

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) is a National Law University situated in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. It is a public university dedicated to legal education and research, and forms part of the wider network of National Law Universities established across the country.

NUSRL was established by a legislative enactment of the State of Jharkhand, namely Act No. 4 of 2010. With this enactment, the institution became the fourteenth National Law University to be set up in India.

Under the governing statute, the office of Visitor of the university is held by the Chief Justice of India or by a Senior Judge of the Supreme Court of India. This arrangement reflects the general pattern followed by several National Law Universities, where senior members of the higher judiciary are associated with the institutional framework of the university.
