Overview
National Institute of Technology Sikkim (NIT Sikkim or NIT SKM) is a public engineering and research institution located near the town of Ravangla in the state of Sikkim, India. It is one of the National Institutes of Technology established across the country and forms part of the network of thirty-one such institutes in India.
The institute has been declared an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India, a status that places it among the country's premier centres for technical education and research. As an autonomous body, NIT Sikkim manages its own academic and administrative affairs while functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Like other institutions in the NIT system, NIT Sikkim focuses on engineering education and research, contributing to the development of technical human resources in the Himalayan region and the wider country.
