Background

The school is part of the NMIMS group of institutions, which was originally founded in 1981 in Mumbai as a management institute and later expanded into engineering, pharmacy, law, commerce and other disciplines. NMIMS was granted deemed-to-be university status by the Government of India in 2003 under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956.

The Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering was established as the engineering arm of NMIMS, with its principal campus in Vile Parle, Mumbai, and a subsequent campus at Shirpur in north-western Maharashtra. The Shirpur campus was developed to extend NMIMS's academic footprint beyond Mumbai and to provide a residential, integrated campus environment.

Campus and location

Shirpur is a town in the Tapi river belt of Dhule district, in the Khandesh region of Maharashtra. The MPSTME campus at Shirpur shares its location with other SVKM-run schools, forming a multi-disciplinary education hub that includes programmes in pharmacy, management and architecture under the NMIMS umbrella.

Academics

MPSTME, Shirpur primarily offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in core and applied engineering disciplines, along with integrated five-year M.Tech programmes and selected postgraduate degrees. Common areas of study at the school include:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electronics and related streams

Admissions to the B.Tech and integrated programmes are conducted through NMIMS's centralised entrance test, the NMIMS Programmes After Twelfth (NPAT), administered by the university for its undergraduate offerings.

Significance

As a regional campus of a Mumbai-based deemed university, MPSTME, Shirpur contributes to higher technical education in the Khandesh region, an area historically less served by private engineering schools of national reach. It enables students from northern Maharashtra and adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to access NMIMS's curriculum and degree at a residential campus closer to home.
