Early life and education
Mona Singh was born on 8 October 1981 in Chandigarh. She studied electronics and electrical communications engineering at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, before moving to Mumbai to pursue a career in entertainment. Prior to her television breakthrough, she worked as a video jockey and appeared in advertisements.

Television
Singh rose to fame with Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2003–2006), the Indian adaptation of the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, broadcast on Star One. Her portrayal of Jasmeet "Jassi" Walia, an unconventional-looking but brilliant employee at a fashion house, earned her widespread recognition and several television awards.
In 2007, she won the fourth season of the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on Sony Entertainment Television. She subsequently hosted reality programmes including Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega on Sony TV. Her later television work includes Kavyanjali, Kya Hua Tera Vaada and the dramatic mini-series Yeh Hai Aashiqui. She also appeared in Bigg Boss-related and other reality formats as a guest.
Films
Singh made her Hindi film debut with 3 Idiots (2009), directed by Rajkumar Hirani, in which she played Mona, the elder sister of Kareena Kapoor's character. She later appeared in films such as Zed Plus (2014).
Her career saw a notable resurgence with Hirani's Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), in which she portrayed the mother of Aamir Khan's title character. The role was widely praised by critics. She has also featured in the satirical comedy Kacchey Limbu (2023).

Singh has built a substantial body of work in streaming content.
