Overview

Mohan Babu University (MBU) is a state private university located in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Established as a private university under the laws of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, it offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across disciplines such as engineering, management, sciences, humanities, commerce and media studies. The university takes its name from the Telugu film actor and educationist Manchu Mohan Babu, who founded the predecessor institutions on which the university is built.

Background

The university grew out of a cluster of educational institutions promoted by Manchu Mohan Babu in the Tirupati region, most notably Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College and the Sree Vidyanikethan group of institutions, which had operated for several years as colleges affiliated to other universities. With the conversion to a unitary private university, these institutions were brought under a single academic umbrella offering integrated programmes and centralised governance.

Tirupati, traditionally known as a temple town and a centre of pilgrimage associated with the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, has in recent decades developed into an educational hub hosting institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati, Sri Venkateswara University and the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences. Mohan Babu University is part of this broader academic ecosystem.
