Overview

Mohammad Shahzad Mohammadi (born 10 January 1988) is an Afghan cricketer who has represented Afghanistan in all three international formats. A right-handed opening batsman, he also keeps wicket for the national side.

Shahzad made his international debut for Afghanistan in August 2009, in a match against the Netherlands. Over the years, he established himself as one of the leading top-order batsmen in Afghan cricket, contributing across One Day Internationals, Twenty20 Internationals and first-class cricket.

He was among the eleven cricketers selected to represent Afghanistan in the country's inaugural Test match, played against India in June 2018. The fixture was a milestone in Afghan cricket, marking the nation's elevation to the longest format of the international game.

Shahzad is also associated with a notable ODI record. During the 2018 Asia Cup, he reached an ODI century in a match against India at a point when Afghanistan's team score stood at just 131, equalling the previous mark held by Pakistan's Shahid Afridi for an ODI hundred scored at the lowest team total.
