As an affiliating university, MAKAUT conducts common entrance procedures, prescribes curricula, sets examinations and awards degrees for affiliated institutions offering programmes in engineering, technology, management, pharmacy, hotel management, architecture and other applied fields. The university also runs its own teaching departments and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes on its campus.

Campus and Location

The main campus of the university is situated in Nadia district of West Bengal, while administrative and academic activities are also coordinated through facilities in the Kolkata metropolitan area. Significance

MAKAUT plays a central role in regulating and standardising technical education in West Bengal. By acting as the affiliating university for the bulk of private and self-financed engineering and management institutions in the state, it shapes curricula, examination standards and quality benchmarks for technical higher education in the region. Its renaming after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad reflects an effort to associate the institution with the legacy of one of India's foremost advocates of modern education.
