Australian-born, he went on to make his career in New Zealand cricket, primarily as a right-handed middle order batsman who also took on the role of opener at various points in his career.
Sinclair made a notable entry into international cricket with his Test debut against the West Indies in 1999. Opening his international career in memorable fashion, he scored 214, a performance that established him as the joint holder of the world record for the highest Test score made by a number three batsman on debut.
