Background

Kerala has historically been a cement-deficit state, relying heavily on supplies from neighbouring regions. Malabar Cements Limited was set up as part of the state government's effort to develop indigenous cement production capacity, taking advantage of limestone deposits available in the Walayar region of Palakkad district, close to the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. The plant's location was chosen for its proximity to raw material sources as well as rail and road connectivity through the Palakkad Gap.

Operations

The company's principal manufacturing facility is located at Walayar in Palakkad district. The plant integrates limestone mining with clinker and cement production. In addition to the main factory, the company has operated grinding and packing facilities to extend distribution reach within Kerala. Malabar Cements supplies cement to government construction projects, public works contracts, and the open retail market under its own brand.
