Overview

Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (MGMCRI), known in French as Collège médical et institut de recherche Mahatma Gandhi, is a medical college and hospital located in the Bahour taluk of Puducherry, India. The campus is situated at Pillayarkuppam, around 14 kilometres from the city of Pondicherry and near the town of Cuddalore.

The institution is run by the Sri Balaji Educational and Charitable Public Trust (SBECPT) and was founded by its chairman, Shri M. K. Rajagopalan. MGMCRI is recognised by the National Medical Commission. It was previously affiliated to Pondicherry University and was later recognised as a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, on 4 August 2008. It forms part of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University.

Admission to the MBBS programme at MGMCRI is conducted solely through NEET UG/PG on a merit-list basis, with seat allotment carried out by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2024, MGMCRI was ranked 47 among medical institutions in India.
