Geography and location
Maduravoyal lies on the western edge of the Chennai metropolitan area, situated along the Chennai Bypass and in close proximity to the Poonamallee High Road (Chennai–Bengaluru route). It is bordered by neighbourhoods such as Koyambedu to the east, Porur to the south, Vanagaram to the west, and Ambattur to the north. The area is part of the Chennai Outer Ring Road corridor that links the National Highways radiating out of the city.
Civic administration
Following the expansion of the Chennai Corporation in 2011, Maduravoyal was merged into the newly constituted Greater Chennai Corporation as part of the Ambattur Zone. Prior to the merger, the locality was administered as a separate municipality. The area falls under the Maduravoyal Assembly Constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Transport
Maduravoyal is well connected by road, with the Chennai Bypass and Poonamallee High Road serving as principal arteries. The Chennai Bypass at Maduravoyal links the Grand Southern Trunk Road (NH 45) and the Chennai–Tiruvallur High Road, providing a route for goods traffic to bypass the central city. Bus services are operated by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), with stops along Poonamallee High Road.
The proposed Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Elevated Expressway, intended to connect the Chennai Port with the Maduravoyal junction on the Chennai Bypass, has been a long-discussed transport project aimed at easing freight movement through the city.
Economy and development
Maduravoyal has experienced significant residential growth driven by its proximity to the IT corridors of Ambattur and the OMR–Porur belt. The neighbourhood hosts a mix of independent housing, apartment complexes, retail outlets, and small-scale commercial establishments. Its position at the intersection of major roads has made it a sought-after location for logistics and warehousing as well.
