Overview

Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is a public state university located in Madurai, in southern Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1966, the university serves as a major centre for higher education and research in the region.

The university is named after K. Kamaraj, a prominent leader from Tamil Nadu. MKU offers programmes across a range of disciplines and supports affiliated colleges in addition to its own teaching and research departments on campus.

MKU has been recognised among the universities in India granted the "University with Potential for Excellence" status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university has also been accredited with an 'A++' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its 4th cycle of assessment in 2021.
