Overview
Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) is a public university located in Darbhanga, in the Mithila region of North India. The university was established in 1972 and initially functioned from the Mohanpur House at Sara Mohanpur village, situated on the Darbhanga–Sakri route. In 1975, it shifted to a new campus on the grounds of the former royal palace of the Raj Darbhanga dynasty.
The university is situated in Mithila, an ancient cultural region of North India that lies between the lower range of the Himalayas and the river Ganges. Its residential campus extends over approximately 230 acres and includes facilities and support services for students and faculty.
LNMU offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a range of disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, life sciences, commerce and medicine. More than 400 faculty members are engaged in teaching and research at the university and its affiliated institutions.
Student political activity on the campus involves several organisations, including the NSUI, AISF, JAAP, JDU, RJD and ABVP student unions.
