Career
Domestic cricket
Patterson made his first-class debut for New South Wales in November 2011 and marked the occasion by scoring a century. In doing so, he became the youngest batsman to score a century in Sheffield Shield cricket. He has since been a regular in the New South Wales line-up in the Sheffield Shield and has also represented the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
International cricket
In January 2019, Patterson was called up to the Australian Test side for the home series against Sri Lanka. In just his second Test, played in Canberra and also against Sri Lanka, Patterson scored a century.
He was not selected for the 2019 Ashes tour of England and subsequently returned to domestic cricket for the 2019–2020 season with New South Wales.
