Overview

Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited, commonly known as KRIBHCO, is an Indian multi-state cooperative society engaged primarily in the manufacture and marketing of chemical fertilisers. Promoted by the Government of India, it is one of the largest cooperative fertiliser producers in the country and operates under the administrative ambit of the Ministry of Cooperation and the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

Background

KRIBHCO was established to strengthen the cooperative sector's role in domestic fertiliser production, reduce dependence on imports, and channel modern agricultural inputs to Indian farmers through the cooperative network. Its membership base is drawn largely from agricultural cooperative societies across India, alongside the Government of India.

Operations

The cooperative's flagship manufacturing complex is located at Hazira in Gujarat, on the Gulf of Khambhat, where it operates ammonia and urea production units along with associated infrastructure. The Hazira plant is gas-based and is among the larger urea-producing facilities in India.

In addition to urea and ammonia, KRIBHCO has diversified into:

  • Bio-fertilisers and bio-pesticides aimed at sustainable agriculture.
  • Certified seed production and distribution.
  • Marketing of imported fertilisers such as DAP and MOP through its dealer network.
  • Joint ventures and subsidiaries in fertiliser trading and rural retail.
