International career

Pollard was a member of the West Indies side that lifted the 2012 ICC World Twenty20. In September 2019, he was named captain of the West Indies ODI and T20I teams.

In a match against Sri Lanka in March 2021, Pollard hit six sixes in a single over bowled by Akila Dananjaya, becoming the third batsman to achieve the feat in international cricket after Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh.

In February 2022, during the second match of a series against India, Pollard became the first West Indies cricketer to play 100 T20I matches. On 20 April 2022, he announced his retirement from international cricket.

Franchise career

Pollard played extensively in Twenty20 leagues around the world. In March 2020, he became the first cricketer to play in 500 Twenty20 matches. He captained MI Cape Town in the SA20, MI Emirates in the ILT20, and MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC). He has also represented the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.

Indian Premier League

Pollard played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League for 13 seasons. On 15 November 2022, he announced his retirement from the IPL and was subsequently appointed as the batting coach of the Mumbai Indians.

Coaching

In addition to his role with Mumbai Indians, Pollard served as the assistant coach of the England cricket team for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Significance

Pollard is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in franchise Twenty20 cricket. His record of becoming the first cricketer to play 500 T20 matches, his six sixes in an over against Sri Lanka, and his role in the West Indies' 2012 World Twenty20 triumph mark him as a notable limited-overs player of his generation.
