Overview

Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is a state university established by the Government of Kerala to advance education, research and extension services in the field of veterinary and animal sciences. It was set up in December 2010 with a mandate to consolidate and expand higher education and scientific work relating to veterinary medicine, animal husbandry and allied disciplines in the state.

The territorial jurisdiction of the university extends to the whole of the State of Kerala. Its headquarters is located at Pookode, near Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala. The university functions as the apex institution in Kerala for academic programmes, research initiatives and outreach activities in veterinary and animal sciences.

In line with the threefold objectives common to agricultural and veterinary universities in India, KVASU's role covers teaching, research and extension. Through its teaching activities, the university offers higher education in veterinary and animal sciences. Its research mandate addresses scientific questions relating to animal health, production and allied areas, while its extension role connects scientific knowledge with farmers, livestock owners and the wider public across Kerala.
