Background
The Kendriya Vidyalaya scheme was launched by the Government of India in 1963 to provide a uniform pattern of education to the wards of central government employees who are subject to frequent transfers. Schools under the scheme follow the CBSE curriculum and a common syllabus across the country, allowing students to continue their studies seamlessly when their families are transferred between stations.
Kendriya Vidyalayas are administered through regional offices; schools located in Maharashtra (excluding the Pune cluster) generally function under the Mumbai Region of KVS. Each Vidyalaya is overseen locally by a Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC) chaired, by convention, by a senior officer of the sponsoring authority in the station.
Academics
The school offers instruction from the primary stage through the secondary and senior secondary stages, preparing students for the All India Secondary School Examination (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) conducted by the CBSE. Subjects taught at the senior secondary level in Kendriya Vidyalayas typically include the Science and Commerce streams, with Hindi, English and Sanskrit among the languages offered, in line with KVS norms.
Activities
In keeping with the standard pattern of Kendriya Vidyalayas, the school participates in inter-Vidyalaya activities organised at the cluster, regional and national levels, including sports meets, scouting and guiding camps, science exhibitions, social science exhibitions and cultural events. Students are also enrolled in co-curricular programmes such as the Bharat Scouts and Guides and the National Cadet Corps where applicable.
Significance
Jalgaon is a district headquarters in northern Maharashtra and an important administrative, agricultural-trade and railway centre on the Mumbai–Bhusawal corridor. The presence of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city supports the educational needs of children of central government, railway, defence and public sector employees posted in the Jalgaon–Bhusawal area, while also offering admission to other categories of students subject to vacancies under KVS admission guidelines.
Admissions
Admissions are conducted in accordance with the KVS Admission Guidelines issued each academic year. Priority categories generally include children of transferable and non-transferable central government employees, employees of central autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings, defence and paramilitary personnel, and state government employees, in that order. Admission to Class I is conducted through an online registration process, while admissions to higher classes depend on the availability of seats.
