Karun Nair

Karun Kaladharan Nair, who was born on December 6 in 1991, is an Indian professional cricketer who bats right-handed. He's known for being a solid middle-order batsman. He has played for the Indian national cricket team and has also been a part of various teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Early Life and Childhood -

Karun was born in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan in our country India. He started playing cricket at a young age and developed his skills through school and club cricket. He eventually moved to Karnataka, a state in South India with a strong cricketing tradition, where he really started to make a name for himself in domestic cricket.

Journey from Playing ‘In India’ to ‘For India’ -

Before playing for India, Karun was a key player for the Karnataka cricket team in all the major domestic tournaments, like the Ranji Trophy. The Ranji Trophy is a big first-class cricket tournament in India, and performing well in Ranji is how players get noticed by the national selectors. Karun was a consistent run-scorer for Karnataka, showing his ability to build long innings and handle pressure in the middle order. He even captained the Karnataka team at times, showing his leadership skills. Just recently, in the 2024-2025 domestic season, he moved to play for Vidarbha and had a really strong season, scoring a lot of runs.

Karun achieved a truly remarkable feat in his Test career for India! Test cricket is the longest format of the game, known for requiring a lot of patience and skill. In December 2016, playing against England in Chennai, Karun scored an incredible triple century (303 not out). This made him only the second Indian batsman ever to score a triple century in Test cricket, which is a really big deal. However, despite this historic achievement, he didn't get as many opportunities in the Indian team afterward. He played a few One Day Internationals (ODIs) as well.

Stepping into the Indian Premier League -

Karun has played for several teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he first played for the Rajasthan Royals and later for teams like the Delhi Daredevils which is now popularly known as Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab which is now Punjab Kings. The IPL is a big stage with a lot of talented players, and being part of different franchises gave Karun experience playing in various team setups and under different coaches. Nair showed his versatility as a batsman in the T20 format by playing crucial innings in the middle order.

Achievements and Records of Karun Nair -

Karun became the second Indian to score a triple century in the history of Test cricket in the 2016, 303 runs, not out against England which is just amazing! and he is also one of the consistent performers and captain for Karnataka in domestic cricket. He had a strong domestic season with Vidarbha in 2024-25.
