Karishma Tanna is an Indian actress and television presenter who works primarily in Hindi television and films, with additional work in Telugu and Kannada cinema. She is best known for her long-running role in the soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and for winning the reality show Bigg Boss 8 spin-off Bigg Boss Halla Bol.

Background

Karishma Tanna was born and raised in Mumbai in a Gujarati family. She entered the entertainment industry through modelling and beauty pageants in the early 2000s before transitioning to acting in television.

Career

Television

Tanna made her acting debut with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms production Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus, where she played Indira "Indu" Virani. The role brought her wide recognition during the show's prime years on Indian television. She subsequently appeared in shows including Kkavyanjali, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Naagin 3, and Qayamat Ki Raat.

She participated in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 5 with then-partner Upen Patel and later took part in Bigg Boss 8, where she finished as a finalist. She went on to win the spin-off Bigg Boss Halla Bol in 2015. In 2020, she won Khatron Ke Khiladi 10, hosted by Rohit Shetty on Colors TV.

Film and digital

Tanna made her Hindi film debut with Dosti: Friends Forever (2005). She has also acted in Telugu and Kannada films, including the Telugu film Tiger (2015). In 2023, she played the lead role of journalist Jagruti Pathak in the Hansal Mehta-directed Netflix series Scoop, a fictionalised account based on the memoir of journalist Jigna Vora; the performance received critical praise.

She has hosted travel and lifestyle programmes, including episodes of Captain Tiao, and has appeared as a judge or guest on various dance and reality formats.
