Building on the visibility and policy importance of the scheme, the state government established Kanyashree University as an institution carrying the Kanyashree identity into higher education.

The university was created through legislation by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly as a state public university. It functions under the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, and is structured to offer undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and affiliated programmes within its jurisdiction in Nadia.

Academics

As a general state university, Kanyashree University is mandated to offer programmes across the arts, humanities, sciences, and commerce. Its academic structure follows the regulatory framework set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and norms applicable to West Bengal state universities.

Significance

The naming of a public university after the Kanyashree Prakalpa is intended to reinforce the policy's emphasis on female education and social empowerment. The institution adds to the network of state-funded universities serving students in Nadia and the wider Presidency division, alongside older institutions such as the University of Kalyani.
