Kalki Koechlin (born 10 January 1984) is a French actress known primarily for her work in Hindi-language films and stage productions in India. Recognised for her unconventional choice of roles, she has received several accolades, including a National Film Award and a Filmfare Award. Though a French citizen, Koechlin has spent most of her life in India.

Background and early life
Koechlin was born in Pondicherry to a French family and was drawn to theatre from a young age. She studied drama at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she also worked with a theatre company. After completing her studies, she returned to India to pursue acting.
Film career
Debut and early work
Koechlin made her Hindi film debut as Chanda in Anurag Kashyap's black comedy-drama Dev.D (2009), a performance that earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2011, she starred in and co-wrote the crime thriller That Girl in Yellow Boots.
Mainstream success
She appeared in two of the highest-grossing Hindi films of their respective years: the comedy-dramas Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). Both performances brought her further nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her commercial work also includes the supernatural thriller Ek Thi Daayan (2013) and the musical drama Gully Boy (2019).

Koechlin received critical praise for her performances in independent films such as Waiting (2015) and Ribbon (2017). For her portrayal of a young woman with cerebral palsy in the coming-of-age drama Margarita with a Straw (2014), she won the National Film Award – Special Jury Award.
