Background
The KLE Society, founded in 1916 in Belagavi by a group of seven educationists, runs a wide network of schools, colleges, and professional institutions across Karnataka and neighbouring states. The Society established B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology in Hubballi in the947 era of post-independence technical education expansion in the Bombay–Karnataka region. Over the decades, BVBCET grew into one of the prominent engineering colleges affiliated to Karnataka University and later to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
Building on this academic base, the Government of Karnataka granted the institution status as a private university, leading to the formation of KLE Technological University with its main campus at Vidyanagar in Hubballi.
Academics
The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Its core areas include:
- Engineering disciplines such as computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, civil, automation, and chemical engineering.
- Architecture and design.
- Management studies and business administration.
- Computer applications and applied sciences.
Programmes are organised through schools and centres dedicated to specific disciplines, with an emphasis on project-based and outcome-based learning.
Campus
The principal campus is situated at Vidyanagar in Hubballi, within the twin-city region of Hubballi–Dharwad, a major educational and commercial hub of northern Karnataka. The campus houses academic blocks, laboratories, libraries, hostels, and sports facilities, and serves as the administrative seat of the university.
Significance
KLE Technological University is among the institutions that have transitioned from being an affiliated engineering college to a unitary private university under Karnataka's higher-education framework. It contributes to the technical education ecosystem of the Hubballi–Dharwad region, which also hosts institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad and Karnatak University. The university is associated with industry-linked research, entrepreneurship initiatives, and innovation centres operating from its campus.
