Overview

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia (born 1 January 1971) is an Indian politician who has been serving as the 56th Minister of Communications and the 10th Minister of Development of North Eastern Region since 2024. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he joined in 2020 after previously being associated with the Indian National Congress (INC) from 2001 to 2020.

Scindia represents the Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Guna in 2002 and continued to represent the seat until his defeat in the 2019 Indian general election. He returned to the Lok Sabha from the same constituency on 4 June 2024. In the interim, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh from 2020 until his Lok Sabha victory in 2024.

During his tenure with the INC, Scindia served as the Union Minister of State for Power and for Corporate Affairs in the second Manmohan Singh ministry from 2012 to 2014. He has held various organisational and ministerial responsibilities across both parties.

He is the son of politician Madhavrao Scindia and a grandson of Jiwajirao Scindia, the last ruler of the princely state of Gwalior during the British Raj. Jyotiraditya was briefly the titular Crown Prince of Gwalior in 1971, until the privy purses and titles of Indian royals were abolished by the government later that year.
