Geography
Jigani lies to the south of central Bengaluru, between Bannerghatta and Anekal. The locality is bordered by the forested tracts associated with the Bannerghatta National Park to the west and connects to the Hosur Road (NH 44) corridor to the east via a network of arterial roads. The Jigani–Bommasandra Link Road and the Jigani–Anekal Road are the principal connectors, linking it to the Bommasandra Industrial Area and to Electronics City.
Civic administration
Jigani is administered as a Town Panchayat under the Government of Karnataka. The area lies outside the limits of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), although several civic services and infrastructure projects extend into Jigani due to its contiguity with Greater Bengaluru.
Industrial area
The Jigani Industrial Area, developed by KIADB, is among the older planned industrial estates in the Bengaluru region. It hosts manufacturing units across sectors such as engineering, pharmaceuticals, garments, electronics, packaging, and automotive components. Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operate from the estate, and it is often grouped together with the adjoining Bommasandra industrial belt for logistics and workforce purposes.
Transport
- Road: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates bus services connecting Jigani to Majestic, Electronics City, Banashankari, and Anekal.
- Rail: The nearest major railway stations are Heelalige and Anekal Road on the Bengaluru–Hosur line.
- Air: Kempegowda International Airport, located in Devanahalli to the north of Bengaluru, is the nearest airport.
Demographics and society
The population of Jigani has grown rapidly with the expansion of industry and the development of residential layouts and apartment projects in adjoining areas such as Bannerghatta, Anekal, and Chandapura. Kannada is the principal language, with Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and English also widely spoken due to the migrant industrial workforce.
Education and institutions
Several schools, technical training institutes, and engineering colleges operate in and around Jigani, serving both the local population and the broader Anekal taluk. The proximity to Electronics City and Bommasandra has also encouraged the growth of vocational training centres catering to industrial employment.
Significance
Jigani is considered part of Bengaluru's southern industrial corridor, which also includes Bommasandra, Attibele, and Electronics City. Its combination of relatively affordable land, planned industrial infrastructure, and connectivity to the Hosur Road growth axis has made it a focal point for manufacturing investment in the Bengaluru metropolitan region.
