Overview

Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) is a state university located at Masab Tank, Hyderabad, in the Indian state of Telangana. The institution specialises in architecture, planning and the fine arts, and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research programmes through its constituent colleges.

The university traces its origins to the erstwhile Hyderabad State, where it was established in 1940 as the College of Fine Arts. Over the years, the institution evolved to encompass a wider range of disciplines connected with design, the built environment and the visual arts, eventually being organised as a university dedicated to these fields.

JNAFAU functions through two principal colleges. The School of Planning and Architecture conducts programmes in areas such as Architecture, Digital Techniques for Design and Planning, Facilities and Services Planning, Interior Designing, and Planning. The College of Fine Arts offers programmes in disciplines including Painting, Applied Arts, Photography, Animation and Sculpture.

Through this combination of design and arts education under a single university, JNAFAU caters to students seeking professional training in architecture and planning as well as those pursuing creative practice in the visual arts.
