Jatin Paranjpe

Jatin Vasudev Paranjpe is a former Indian first-class cricketer who later served as a national selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). A left-handed batsman, he represented Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy during the 1990s and played a small number of matches for the senior India side in limited-overs cricket.

Background

Paranjpe comes from a cricketing family in Mumbai. His father, Vasudev Paranjpe, was a well-known coach and mentor associated with several leading Indian batsmen, including Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. Jatin grew up within Mumbai's strong club and school cricket structure, which has historically been a feeder for the city's Ranji Trophy team.

Playing career

Domestic cricket

Paranjpe played first-class cricket for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. As a left-hander, he was part of a Mumbai batting line-up that maintained the side's traditional dominance in Indian domestic cricket through the 1990s.

International cricket

He earned selection to the India One Day International squad in the late 1990s, making appearances in the limited-overs format. His international career was brief and he did not feature in Test cricket.

Administrative career

After retiring from active cricket, Paranjpe transitioned to cricket administration. He was appointed to the BCCI's senior national selection committee, on which he served as the West Zone representative. In this capacity he was involved in selecting the India men's squads for international tours and tournaments, working alongside selectors such as M. S. K. Prasad during the latter part of the 2010s.

Significance

Although his on-field international career was limited, Paranjpe is recognised as part of the strong Mumbai cricketing tradition, both through his family lineage and his domestic record. His tenure as a national selector placed him among those responsible for shaping India's men's squads during a period of generational transition in the team.
