Childhood and Early Life
Jasprit Bumrah was born in Ahmedabad, a city in the state of Gujarat, India. He was raised in a middle-class family and his father, Jasbir Singh Bumrah, passed away when Jasprit was only 7 years old. This was a very difficult time for his family. His mother, Daljit Bumrah, worked as a school principal in Ahmedabad to take care of Jasprit and his elder sister, Juhika Bumrah.
While growing up, Bumrah was very passionate about cricket and just like many Indian children, he loved playing with a tennis ball in his neighborhood. Even though his family was not very rich, his mother always supported his dreams. Jasprit admired famous fast bowlers like Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan, and he dreamt of one day representing India.
Initial Cricket Career
Bumrah started playing serious cricket in school and local tournaments in Ahmedabad and his talent was first noticed when he bowled exceptionally well in an under-19 state-level match. His speed and unusual bowling action made him stand out from other bowlers. In 2013, he made his debut for the Gujarat state team in the Ranji Trophy, which is India’s most prestigious domestic cricket tournament. In his very first match, he took 7 wickets, which caught the attention of many cricket experts.
Around the same time, the Mumbai Indians team from the Indian Premier League (IPL) noticed his talent. The IPL is one of the most famous T20 cricket leagues in the world, where players from different countries come together to play for various teams. Bumrah was selected to play for Mumbai Indians in 2013, and in his debut match, he dismissed Virat Kohli who is one of the best batsmen in the world, which made people take notice of this young bowler.
National to International Career
Jasprit Bumrah’s hard work paid off when he got a chance to play for the Indian national team when he made his T20I debut against Australia in January 2016. In the same series, he also played his first ODI where he impressed everyone with his tight bowling, accurate yorkers, and calmness under pressure.
Later, in 2018, he made his Test debut against South Africa. Many people doubted whether Bumrah could succeed in Test cricket, but he proved them wrong by performing brilliantly even on foreign pitches, where conditions are often difficult for Indian bowlers. Since then, Bumrah has become one of India’s most important and reliable bowlers in all formats of the game.
His bowling speed often crosses 140 km/h, and he uses clever variations like slower balls, bouncers, and off-cutters to confuse batsmen. Bumrah is also known for his calm personality. No matter how tough the match situation is, he stays focused and never lets his emotions affect his game.
