Background
Malhotra was born in India and later moved to the United States, where he became part of the country's growing cricketing community. He progressed through domestic cricket in the US before being selected for national representative duties as the United States expanded its high-performance programme in pursuit of full membership recognition by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
International Career
Malhotra has represented the United States in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket. He is among a generation of US cricketers who emerged after the country was granted ODI status, with many of the team's senior players having backgrounds from cricketing nations such as India, Pakistan, the West Indies and South Africa.
Notable performance
In September 2021, during an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 fixture against Papua New Guinea in Al Amerat, Oman, Malhotra hit six sixes in an over off the bowling of Gaurav Vora. He went on to score an unbeaten 173, his maiden ODI century, becoming one of the few batters in the history of List A and ODI cricket to achieve the feat of six sixes in a single over.
Significance
Malhotra's career reflects the increasing role of diaspora cricketers in the development of cricket in the United States. His record-equalling feat in 2021 brought wider international attention to US cricket at a time when the sport was preparing for a larger role in North America, including the country's co-hosting of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024.
