Overview

Jamia Hamdard is an institute of higher education with the status of deemed to be university, located in Delhi, India. The institution traces its origins to a clinic specialising in Unani medicine that was established in Delhi in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed.

The institution was founded in 1963 as Hamdard Tibbi College by Hakim Abdul Hameed. It was subsequently granted the status of deemed to be university in 1989, evolving from its earlier role as a centre dedicated to traditional medicine into a broader university offering higher education.

Reflecting its roots in Unani medicine, Jamia Hamdard has historically been associated with studies and scholarship in traditional systems of healthcare, alongside its later development as a multidisciplinary deemed university in the national capital.
