Overview
Jale is a town and notified area in the Darbhanga district of the Indian state of Bihar. It serves as the headquarters of Jale community development block and is one of the administrative subdivisions in the Mithila region of north Bihar. The town lies in the Darbhanga Lok Sabha constituency and is part of the Jale Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituency.

Geography
Jale is situated in the alluvial plains of north Bihar, on the western side of Darbhanga district. The terrain is flat and fertile, formed by sediments deposited by the rivers of the Kosi–Kamala basin. The area is part of the Mithila cultural and linguistic zone, where Maithili is widely spoken alongside Hindi.
Administration
Jale functions as the headquarters of the Jale block, one of several blocks in Darbhanga district. The block office, police station, primary health centre and other line-department offices serving the surrounding villages are located in or near the town. For higher administrative, judicial and revenue matters, residents look to the district headquarters at Darbhanga.
Politics
The Jale Assembly constituency sends a representative to the Bihar Legislative Assembly and forms part of the Darbhanga parliamentary constituency for elections to the Lok Sabha.
Economy
The economy of Jale and its hinterland is predominantly agrarian. Paddy, wheat, maize, pulses and seasonal vegetables are common crops, and fish farming is practised in the numerous ponds typical of the Mithila region. Local trade centres on agricultural produce, dairy and small-scale retail.
Transport
Jale is connected by road to Darbhanga and to other towns in north Bihar. The nearest major railway junction and airport are at Darbhanga, which links the area to Patna and other parts of the country.
Culture
As a town within Mithila, Jale shares the cultural traditions of the region, including Maithili language and literature, Madhubani (Mithila) painting, and festivals such as Chhath, Sama-Chakeva, Vivaha Panchami and Durga Puja.
