Overview
The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) is a training and research organisation based in Govandi, Mumbai. It is dedicated to the study of population sciences and serves as a regional resource for the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) region.
The institute functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Its work spans teaching, training and research in demography, population studies, and allied fields, with a focus on issues relevant to public health and social development.
IIPS is the nodal agency for several major studies in India. It is responsible for conducting the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), a large-scale survey that gathers information on health, nutrition and family welfare. The institute also undertakes the evaluation of the National Rural Health Mission and conducts the Global Adult Tobacco Survey, contributing data and analysis used for policy and programme planning.
