The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) is a deemed-to-be university located in Sardarshahr, in the Churu district of Rajasthan, India. The institution is principally engaged in teacher education, the social sciences, and humanities, and has its roots in the Gandhi Vidya Mandir movement that promotes education in the Thar desert region of north-western Rajasthan.

Background

Sardarshahr, the town where IASE is situated, lies in the arid Churu district of Rajasthan and has been an important centre of educational and social reform activity since the mid-twentieth century. The university grew out of educational initiatives associated with Gandhi Vidya Mandir, an organisation that established schools, colleges and training institutes in the area to extend modern education to a region historically marked by limited literacy, particularly among women and rural communities.
