Background
The institution traces its origins to Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), a women's engineering college that operated as a constituent institute affiliated with a Delhi-based university. It was later upgraded to the status of an independent state university through legislation passed by the Delhi Legislative Assembly, becoming Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.
