Overview
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Berhampur (IISER Berhampur) is an autonomous public institute dedicated to research and science education, located in Berhampur, Odisha. It is one of the seven IISERs established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance.
The institute was established in 2016 and commenced academic activities from the 2016–17 academic year in August. It forms part of the network of IISERs set up to integrate undergraduate teaching with frontline scientific research in the basic sciences.
Academics
IISER Berhampur offers a five-year Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) dual-degree programme, along with Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Integrated Ph.D. (i-Ph.D.) programmes. The academic disciplines offered include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Sciences.
In addition to the core disciplines, students at the institute may pursue minor specialisations in interdisciplinary areas such as Data Sciences, Bioengineering and Engineering Physics. The institute also supports post-doctoral positions and provides opportunities for roles including Research Associate and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) project fellow, contributing to its research ecosystem.
