Each IIIT under the PPP scheme operates with the Central Government, the State Government and industry partners contributing to its funding and governance. In the case of IIIT Kota, the State Government of Rajasthan participates as a partner along with industry collaborators.
During its initial years of operation, the institute functioned from the campus of its mentor institution, the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, before transitioning to its own dedicated campus in Kota. The mentorship arrangement provided academic and administrative support during the institute's formative phase.
Academics
The institute offers undergraduate programmes leading to the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in computer science and engineering, and electronics and communication engineering, among related areas. Admission to undergraduate programmes is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main), with seat allotment conducted via the centralised counselling process administered by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.
Governance
As a PPP-mode IIIT, the institute is governed by a Board of Governors that includes representatives of the Central Government, the State Government of Rajasthan, and industry partners. The Director serves as the chief academic and executive officer of the institute. Statutory recognition is derived from the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, which grants degree-awarding authority and the status of Institute of National Importance.
Location
Kota is a city in southeastern Rajasthan, situated on the banks of the Chambal River, and is widely known as a major centre for coaching of competitive entrance examinations in India.
