The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati or IIITG) is a public technical institute located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It is one of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology established under the public–private partnership (PPP) model promoted by the Ministry of Education (formerly the Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of Assam and industry partners. Background
The Indian Institutes of Information Technology were conceived as a network of specialised institutes intended to address the country's growing demand for skilled professionals in information technology and related fields. Under the PPP scheme announced by the Government of India, each institute is jointly funded by the central government, the host state government, and industry partners, with the central government contributing the majority share. IIIT Guwahati was established within this framework to serve the North-East region of India and to expand access to high-quality technical education in the region.
The IIITs established under the PPP model were brought under a common statutory framework through the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, which conferred on them the status of Institutes of National Importance and the authority to grant their own degrees.
Academics
IIIT Guwahati offers programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, primarily in computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and related areas of information technology.
