The Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), commonly known as Hindustan University, is a deemed-to-be university located in Padur, on the outskirts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. The Hindustan Group of Institutions was established by K. C. G. Verghese, who founded the Hindustan College of Engineering in 1985. Following sustained growth in academic programmes, infrastructure, and research output, the institution was conferred deemed-to-be university status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, becoming the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science.
