Overview

Hindi University (abbreviated HU; ISO: hindī viśvavidyālaya) is a non-affiliating public research university located in Howrah, West Bengal. The university was established in 2019 under The Hindi University Act, 2019.

The institution became operationally active with the appointment of its first vice-chancellor, Damodar Mishra, in 2021. Its first batch of students commenced studies at Narashingha Dutta College in Howrah, which served as a temporary host for academic activities while the university's own infrastructure was being developed.

The permanent university building is under construction in Uttar Arupara, situated near the Kolkata Police Training Camp in Howrah. As a non-affiliating university, Hindi University does not have affiliated colleges under it; instead, it focuses on its own teaching and research programmes.
