Overview
Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), also known as the Central University of Uttarakhand, is a central university located in Srinagar in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, in northern India. Established in 1973, it is named after Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. The campus is situated on the banks of the river Alaknanda in the mid-Himalayas.
The university is residential-cum-affiliating in character, with jurisdiction extending across the Garhwal region. It offers programmes through multiple schools and affiliated colleges spread across the region, catering to students from the hill districts of Uttarakhand and beyond.
Admission to the university is conducted through entrance examinations. Applicants to the School of Engineering and Technology are admitted through the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main), while management programmes draw on results from the Common Admission Test (CAT) and the Management Aptitude Test (MAT), among other channels.
HNBGU has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A grade, reflecting a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.11 in its assessment.
