Background

Harmanpreet Singh was born in the village of Timmowal in Amritsar district, Punjab, into a farming family. He took up hockey at a young age and trained at Surjit Hockey Academy in Jalandhar, one of Punjab's well-known nurseries for the sport. He progressed through India's junior set-up before earning a senior call-up.

Career

Junior career

Harmanpreet was part of the India junior team that won the FIH Junior World Cup in 2016, held in Lucknow. His ability to convert penalty corners was a notable feature of that campaign.

Senior international career

He made his senior debut for India in 2015. He has since been a regular fixture in the Indian defence and a primary penalty corner taker. Major appearances include:
