Background

The Great Lakes group was established in Chennai in 2004 with academic mentorship from international institutions, most notably the Kellogg School of Management. The institute positioned itself in the Indian management education landscape with an emphasis on a one-year postgraduate programme modelled on international MBA structures, in addition to longer programmes for fresher candidates.

The Gurgaon campus was set up to extend the school's presence to the National Capital Region, complementing the flagship campus at Chennai. Its location in Gurgaon places it within one of India's principal corporate hubs, home to a large concentration of multinational firms, financial services companies, and information technology employers.

Academic programmes

The Gurgaon campus offers postgraduate programmes in management, including:

  • A one-year, full-time postgraduate programme in management aimed at candidates with prior work experience.
  • A two-year postgraduate diploma programme for candidates with limited or no work experience.
  • Executive and certificate programmes designed for working professionals.

Curricula typically cover finance, marketing, operations, analytics, strategy, and human resources, with electives that reflect contemporary industry demand.

Campus and location

Situated in Gurgaon, the campus benefits from proximity to corporate offices across sectors such as consulting, banking, technology, and consumer goods, which supports recruitment activity and industry interaction. The city forms part of the Delhi National Capital Region and is well connected to New Delhi by road and metro.

Significance

Within Indian management education, Great Lakes is recognised as one of the newer-generation private business schools that have built reputations outside the older Indian Institutes of Management system. The Gurgaon campus contributes to this profile in north India, while the Chennai campus serves the south. The institute has periodically appeared in domestic business school rankings published by Indian media outlets.
