Overview
Government Dharmapuri Medical College is a medical educational institution located on Nethaji Bye Pass Road within Dharmapuri Municipality, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The college was established in 2008 and offers undergraduate medical education along with associated clinical training through its attached hospital.
The college admits 100 students each academic year, of which 85 seats are filled under the state quota and 15 seats are allotted through the All India quota. It is recognised by the National Medical Commission, the statutory body responsible for medical education and the regulation of medical professionals in India.
The foundation stone for the college was laid on 19 January 2010 by M. K. Stalin, who was then the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The institution forms part of the network of government medical colleges set up across districts in Tamil Nadu to expand access to medical education and tertiary healthcare.
The attached hospital provides clinical services to patients from Dharmapuri district and the surrounding regions. It has carried out around 3,000 surgeries under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, a state-run programme that provides cashless medical and surgical care to eligible beneficiaries at empanelled hospitals.
