Geography
Gopalganj district lies in the alluvial plains of north Bihar. The Gandak River, a major tributary of the Ganges, flows along its boundary and shapes the district's terrain, soils and seasonal flood pattern. The district shares borders with neighbouring districts of Bihar including Siwan, Saran and East Champaran, and adjoins the state of Uttar Pradesh to the west. The terrain is generally flat and fertile, supporting intensive agriculture.
Administration
The district is administered by a District Magistrate and is divided into subdivisions and community development blocks for revenue and development purposes. For policing, it is headed by a Superintendent of Police. Gopalganj district is a constituent of the Saran commissionary division.
