Background
Gaurav Singh emerged through the cricketing structure in Uttarakhand, a state whose senior team became eligible to take part in BCCI-organised national tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy from the 2018–19 season onwards. Before this recognition, organised competitive cricket in Uttarakhand was largely confined to age-group, club and regional level, which meant most early Uttarakhand state players had spent years in local cricket before entering the national domestic circuit.
Career
Singh has appeared for the Uttarakhand state cricket team in the BCCI's senior domestic competitions. The Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU), recognised by the BCCI, administers the team, which plays its home matches primarily at venues in Dehradun, including the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Significance
As one of the cricketers from the early seasons of Uttarakhand's full BCCI membership, Singh belongs to the cohort of players who helped establish the state's presence in the national first-class and limited-overs structure. The integration of Uttarakhand alongside Bihar, Pondicherry, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim marked a notable expansion of Indian domestic cricket beyond its traditional twenty-seven teams.
