Background

GITAM was founded in Visakhapatnam in 1980 by M. V. V. S. Murthi. In its early years, the institution functioned as GITAM College, affiliated to Andhra University, one of the oldest universities in southern India. The college gradually expanded its academic offerings before transitioning into an autonomous, deemed-to-be university.
