Overview
Mohamed Farveez Maharoof, born on 7 September 1984, is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer who played both Test matches and One Day Internationals for his country. An all-rounder, he made his Test debut in 2004 and went on to represent Sri Lanka in international cricket across formats.
Maharoof first came to prominence as captain of the Sri Lankan side at the 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Prior to that, he had a notable schoolboy career at Wesley College, where his achievements included a highest score of 243 and best bowling figures of 8 for 20. These performances helped establish his reputation as a promising young all-rounder.
At the international level, Maharoof was part of the Sri Lankan squad that finished as runners-up at the 2007 Cricket World Cup. At domestic and franchise level, he has turned out for several teams, including Bloomfield, Nondescripts and Wayamba in Sri Lanka, the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, Lancashire in English county cricket, and the Barisal Burners in Bangladesh.
After retiring from playing, Maharoof has continued his association with the game by working as an international cricket commentator for Sri Lanka.
