Fakir Mohan University

Fakir Mohan University is a state public university located in Balasore, in the northern coastal region of Odisha, India. The university is named after Fakir Mohan Senapati, the nineteenth-century Odia writer widely regarded as the father of modern Odia prose fiction. It functions as an affiliating and teaching university serving the districts of the Balasore region.

Background

The university was established by the Government of Odisha to expand higher education and research opportunities in the northern part of the state, an area earlier served largely by colleges affiliated to Utkal University. Following its creation, several undergraduate and postgraduate colleges in and around Balasore were brought under its affiliation. The institution was named in honour of Fakir Mohan Senapati, who himself had close associations with the Balasore region through his life and literary career.
