Overview
Divine presence, also referred to as the presence of God, Inner God, or simply presence, is a concept found across religion, spirituality and theology. It addresses the ability of a deity to be "present" with human beings, and is often associated with the attribute of omnipresence.
Within theological discussion, the idea explores how the divine relates to creation and to the individual devotee. While omnipresence describes the deity as being everywhere, the notion of divine presence focuses more specifically on the experience or recognition of that nearness in particular places, persons or moments.
The concept appears in varied forms across traditions, including Hindu thought, where the indwelling of the divine within the self and the cosmos is a recurrent theme in scriptural and philosophical literature. Related ideas such as the Inner God reflect the belief that the divine may be encountered both within the human being and beyond it.
