Geography
Dibiyapur lies in the southern part of Auraiya district, in the plains between the Yamuna and Ganga rivers. The terrain is flat alluvial farmland typical of the Doab, supporting cultivation of wheat, paddy, pulses, mustard and sugarcane. The town is connected by road to Auraiya, Etawah and Kanpur, and lies in proximity to the Kanpur–Agra corridor.
Administration
The town is administered as a nagar panchayat under the urban local body framework of Uttar Pradesh. Following the creation of Auraiya district in 1997 from Etawah district, Dibiyapur came under the jurisdiction of the new district. It falls within the Dibiyapur tehsil and is a part of the larger Auraiya administrative set-up.
Industry and infrastructure
Dibiyapur's modern profile is closely tied to natural gas-based infrastructure developed in the 1980s and 1990s along the HVJ pipeline.
- NTPC Auraiya Gas Power Station: A combined-cycle gas turbine plant operated by NTPC Limited, located near Dibiyapur. It is one of the early gas-based stations commissioned by NTPC and supplies power to states in the northern grid.
- GAIL compressor station: GAIL (India) Limited operates a compressor station at Dibiyapur as part of the Hazira–Vijaipur–Jagdishpur trunk pipeline, which transports natural gas from western India to consumers in northern India.
- Township: Residential townships of NTPC and GAIL form a significant part of the town's built-up area, with associated schools, healthcare facilities and recreational amenities.
Transport
Dibiyapur is served by a railway station on the Indian Railways network in the Kanpur–Etawah section of the Howrah–Delhi main line corridor, providing connectivity to major cities in northern India. Road connectivity links the town to National Highway routes passing through Auraiya and Etawah.
Demographics
The population is predominantly Hindi-speaking, with Urdu also in use. The presence of public sector townships has added a mixed population drawn from across India working in the power and gas sectors, alongside the local agrarian and trading communities.
Significance
Dibiyapur is significant within Uttar Pradesh as a node in India's energy infrastructure: it combines gas-fired electricity generation with mid-stream natural gas transmission. This dual role has shaped the town's development from a primarily agricultural settlement into a service and industrial centre in southern Auraiya district.
